Phyllis Solomon was born in Brooklyn, New York and moved to Bowie, Maryland as a young girl. She became involved with USY and attended the USY Pilgrimage. She earned her Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland.

Phyllis worked for United Synagogue for two years and has been involved in many Jewish causes, including Jewish Women International, and her synagogue. After visiting Israel in 1999 on a family mission with her husband and two sons, she joined AMHSI as a Director of Admissions.
