Generous Local and National scholarships are available through many agencies. Some are based on merit and some on income/ need. Your local Federation and affiliated synagogue might also offer scholarships for AMHSI in your community, as well as agencies like Passport to Israel.

Our Directors of Admissions can be very helpful in finding out for you all your available options. Here is some preliminary information on available scholarships in your area, but we reccommend you look into your options further than what is outlined below.

California: Contact AMHSI Director of Admissions, Jennifer Weiss

East Bay: The Jewish Community Foundation is offering financial aid for high school programs in Israel. Amount awarded varies due to number of applications received and tuition of the program; The Israel Center of the Jewish Federation of the Greater East Bay offers scholarships for high school students who study in East Bay or whose parents are from there. Those awarded are expected to contribute to the Jewish community through service projects upon return. The amount awarded depends on the cost of the program and the applicant's invovlement in Jewish or Israel activities.
Los Angeles: The Israel Experience through the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles offers a $500 grant for any student participating on an Israel program, with a $250 partnership from the applicant's Synagogue or Congregation; The Israel Experience through the Jewish Federation of Los Angeles also offers a need-base scholarship ranging from $100 - $1500 through the Marks and Brown fellowship.
Orange County: The Jewish Federation of Orange County offers scholarship money ranging from $500 - $1000 for any student from the Orange County/Irvine area participating on an Israel program.
San Diego: The Israel Center of The United Jewish Federation of San Diego County offers the UJF Israel Center Scholarship. $100 - $1500 is awarded to teens participating on an Israel program; Through the Federation-Synagogue Partnership Fund, the Jewish Federation of San Diego matches up to $1500 in funds with participating synagogues; The UJF Israel Student Travel Scholarship offers subsidies ranging from $100 - $2500 per student participating on an Israel program.
San Gabriel & Ponoma Valley: The Jewish Federation office offers scholarships up to $500 to local teenagers traveling on a program to Israel.
San Francisco: The Bureau of Jewish Education of San Francisco offers a first time Israel Scholarship. Amount awarded varies due to cost of program and family financial situation.
Ventura County: The Jewish Federation of Ventura County offers approx. $1000 per student from the Ventura area planning on participating on an Israel program.

There are The Louis Herman Israel Experience Fund and Talmud Torah grants available.

For high-school students entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grades who are permanent residents of New York City, Nassau, Suffolk, or Westchester and planning to participate in one of the many approved Israel programs, The Federation of New York offers need-based scholarships and merit awards. Check with your local synagogue too for special funding by your Rabbi.

Oregon: Contact AMHSI Director of Admissions, Kathy Keyni

There is the Oregon Board of Rabbis' Teen Israel Experience scholarship where you can receive funding for 80% of a teen Israel program, up to $4000. See www.oregonboardofrabbis.org for application and details on obtaining this scholarship.

Phoenix: Contact AMHSI Director of Admissions, Elaine Hirsch

There are the $1000 Bureau of Jewish Education Sarah Levitz Study Fellowships as well as the $1180 Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix Grossman and London Gold Scholarships available.

Washington, DC: Contact AMHSI Director of Admissions, Phyllis Solomon

ISRAEL QUEST funding is provided for all teens in the Washington, DC metropolitan area by the United Jewish Endowment Fund, the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, and the Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning. Need-based scholarship funding is available through Israel Experience Scholarship, and also through the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington. Deadlines for this funding is November 15 and April 1 of each year.

JNF's Plant Your Way to Israel is a fun program for youth to raise funds for travel on Israel programs by planting trees. JNF also offers the Milton Shapiro Scholarship.

We encourage you to discuss your needs with your Director of Admissions (DA) and apply for scholarships early in the enrollment process. Please be aware that the AMHSI National Scholarship can only be applied to the tuition and will not be applied until all other scholarships have been investigated and received.
