![]() Dean of EducationDavid Mitchell was born and raised in Northern California. He completed a double BA in History and Hebrew Texts at the University of California, Berkeley, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He then received an MA with honors in Bible from the Hebrew University. David made Aliyah in 1975, and lived on kibbutzim for seven years. He is married to Ruti, a native Israeli and together they have two sons and two daughters. David has been in education since college, and served as a teacher in Day and Hebrew Schools in Northern California, and worked as a research and teacher's assistant while in graduate school. He taught History for the Young Judea Year Course and taught career soldiers history and Hebrew grammar while serving in the Israel Defense Forces between 1980-1982, where he still serves on active reserve duty. In 1984, David became a teacher at the Alexander Muss High School in Israel. During that time he also served as an Israel emissary for the Youth and Hechalutz Department of the Jewish Agency to the Pacific Southwest Region of USY. In addition to teaching history, he has also traveled to the US with AMIIE to train Philadelphia-based Jewish educators, and has served as a Scholar-in-Residence in Boca Raton, spoken in camps and elsewhere.
