The AMIIE Core program

Since its inception in 1972, AMHSI has developed a revolutionary and interdisciplinary approach to teaching and learning which utilizes the unique historic, geographic and human resources of the country of Israel. The exciting text-based core program is composed of class study and on-site field studies (tiyulim) in an integrated curriculum. The core curriculum focuses on the study of the land and the 4,000 year history of the peoples of Israel in the context of the overall development of Western Civilization.

Each student experiences a complete immersion into the history, culture and civilization of Israel, with the course spanning the historical periods chronologically- according to a timeline- from the Middle Bronze Age (Biblical Period) to the present. History comes to life as you get to actually experience the places and retrace the footsteps and actions of the heroes you learn about. Our core faculty are all highly experienced and educated, with most of the faculty possessing advanced degrees. The student-teacher ratio is approximately 20:1.

General Studies

In addition to the core curriculum, the AMHSI General Studies Program, (which we often refer to as "Sequential Studies" as these are home subjects that must be taught according to a sequence of unit levels), offers small group (oftentimes one-on-one) instruction classes in Mathematics, Science, Foreign Language, AP History, Computer courses, Humanities and other courses, so that students do not fall behind on regular school work.

General Studies high school courses are only taught during the school year (ie. not in summer). Regular high school classes are taught as tutorials and provide personalized attention as well as flexibility to students. The student / teacher ratio is 1:1 or 2:1 if there are multiple students with the same classes at the same level. These classes are usually held 3 days a week for one and a half hours per sequential course in the afternoon. A variety of structured group activities are organized on summer afternoons.
