AMHSI Prepares You for Life

I went on AMHSI 23 years ago and it was the best trip I've ever taken. Now I am 37 years old and have travelled to Europe and Israel and around the US many times.  However the trip with High school in Israel is when I found my identity as a Jew and learned about where I came from and where I want to go.  When controversies arise about Israel I still frequently think back to my education in Hod Hasharon and how I learned to think about Israel and the Jews then.  I wish my husband could go on the trip now!  I still contribute to AMHSI because I think it is one of the best ways to ensure that Jewish people maintain their Jewish identity into adulthood

Thank you for this wonderful experience!

Beginnings

The Alexander Muss High School in Israel was founded in 1972 by Rabbi Morris Kipper and the Greater Miami Jewish Federation to help teens better understand Israel's living history through hands-on exploring. By recognizing that using Israel as a living classroom would boost interest in and attachment to the land and its fascinating history, AMHSI, with its chronologically ordered time-line curriculum, revolutionized the way 'Israel' was taught. Initially a South Florida initiative, AMHSI's reputation spread, and other communities eventually embraced the experience. A total of 36 years of academic excellence have produced over 19,000 alumni from a world-class program in Israel dedicated to building Jewish identity, strengthening our communities and impacting our shared Jewish future.

AMIIE Evolution

In recent years, AMHSI has taken on significant educational and transformative activities beyond the scope of the high school program in Israel.

In November 2003, we changed our name to the Alexander Muss Institute for Israel Education (AMIIE). Rather than being merely a name change, it has heralded a new era of opportunities for the school, providing us with increased flexibility to integrate and promote a whole new range of activities (including our popular Day School programs, Family and Bar/Bat Mitzvah trips, community programs, Adult trips, etc.). This change in corporate structure has empowered us to serve a wider variety of learners than those frequenting the original eight-week high school in Israel program. Nonetheless, our mission remains the same: we build and strengthen relationships between Diaspora Jews and Israel through education, experience and understanding, one learner at a time.
